THE OCCULT SIDE OF SANTS

Sants, one of the industrial emporiums around Barcelona and a focus of social and political upheaval, is today one of the most vibrant districts of the capital, with an intense cultural and associative life and substantial urban projects on the horizon. We will delve into the past and the secrets of the old town, independent until 1897. The route will focus on the remote origins of Sants and its medieval temples and farmhouses, the workers' conflict in the factories and the political revolts, phenomena typical of the 19th century such as Freemasonry or Spiritism, the roots of anarchism in the district, the opulence of the buildings of Modest Feu and the cataclysm of the civil war, with its bomb shelters. Some of the buildings restricted to the public that can be visited are the old “Ateneu Batllori” on Carrer del Cros (in whose auditorium ERC was founded in 1931) and the central nave of Can Batlló, the jewel in the crown of the industrialist Muñoz Ramonet. The refuge from the civil war under the church of Santa María de Sants and the transformer building next to Can Vies are to be confirmed in the coming days.

Prices according to group size (includes cultural itinerary and guided visit to Ateneu Batllori and Can Batlló). Book your route on the desired date through our contact form.
